Next Up for Portillo’s: Gurnee, Illinois Blog Title

Finally, Portillo's is coming to Gurnee, Illinois.

The 41st Portillo's restaurant will open in Gurnee this November on Gurnee Mills Circle, northeast of Bass Pro Shops at Gurnee Mills. The Portillo's in Gurnee will be the northernmost Portillo's.

"Gurnee residents have been asking us to come to their city for years," said Portillo's founder Dick Portillo. "We're thrilled we're finally coming to Gurnee."

More than 4,500 people joined the "Gurnee Wants Portillo's" Facebook page, which was started in 2013.

In early August, Portillo's will use a temporary hiring center inside entrance F in Gurnee Mills to hire 200 new employees for the restaurant. The restaurant is scheduled to open in November.

Portillo's will invest $5 million to build its new Gurnee restaurant. The restaurant will feature a 1920s theme, two drive-thru lanes, seasonal outdoor seating, and will sell beer and wine.

"The Village of Gurnee has been a great partner in this process," said Portillo's Chief Operating Officer Sherri Abruscato. "We couldn't have made this happen without tremendous support from the Village — especially Mayor Kristina Kovarik. We want to thank her and her team for working with us to find the perfect location for our 41st Portillo's restaurant."

"We were pleased to work so closely with Portillo's to create the best possible shopping, dining and entertainment experience for the community," said Gregg Goodman, President of The Mills.

Gurnee Portillo's fans can register now to receive a free piece of chocolate cake from any Portillo's restaurant on their birthday. Head to portillos.com/freecake to sign up.

See you in November!
